Gemini for Windows not opening? Start here

A safe checklist for Gemini for Windows when the app will not open, closes immediately, or the shortcut does nothing.

Use this order so you do not erase settings before checking the easy causes.

Safe troubleshooting order

  1. Confirm your PC meets the published requirements.
  2. Open Gemini from the Start menu instead of the shortcut.
  3. Quit Gemini from the system tray and reopen it.
  4. Install pending Windows updates, then restart.
  5. Download a fresh installer from Google's official page and reinstall.
  6. For work or school accounts, ask the administrator whether Gemini access is enabled.

If the app still closes immediately, use the web version temporarily and report the device architecture, Windows build, and app version through Google's help channel. Do not download unofficial “fixed” installers.
